FAB C-130 transports orphaned wild animals from Manaus to Goiânia

Last Saturday (22), the Brazilian Air Force transported seven orphaned wild animals from Manaus (AM) to Goiânia (GO). There were six monkeys of the parauacu, howler and woolly monkeys, which were under the care of IBAMA and a harpy eagle that was in the Zoo of the Brazilian Army's War and Jungle Instruction Center (CIGS).

The animals were transported in a Lockheed C-130M Hércules from Esquadrão Gordo (1st/1st Transport Group), taking advantage of an already planned Air Transport mission, according to the FAB. Now, the monkeys and the bird are under the care of the Conservationist Breeding Area of ​​the Onça Pintada Institute, located in Mineiros (GO), which thanked the Air Force for its .

“It is an honor to complete this flight in order to benefit from a mission of the Brazilian Army”, declared one of the pilots of the aircraft, Lieutenant Aviator Guilherme Sfredo Saraiva, a member of the Gordo Squadron.  “We are also working around the clock to carry out Operation COVID-19 relief missions, as well as many others”, added the soldier. 

According to Natália de Sousa Lima, an environmental analyst who works at the Wild Animal Screening Center (Cetas) in Amazonas, the animals had different origins and had been under the care of IBAMA for some time. “Now, they have been taken into captivity for good”, he added.

On his social networks, Leandro da Silveira, a biologist at the Onça Pintada Institute, responsible for receiving the animals, reciprocated the help of the FAB. “The Onça-Pintada Institute thanks the Brazilian Air Force for its constant in transporting wild animals rescued by environmental agencies.
