China Airlines will retire its Airbus A330 fleet to make way for the Boeing 787

China Airlines chose the modern Boeing 787 to renew its fleet, and for this reason it will retire its fleet of older Airbus A330s. The new agreement was announced on Tuesday (30).

The Taiwanese airline was evaluating market options and opted for the Boeing 787 that had its deliveries resumed in recent weeks. According to Simple flying, the deal will be for 16 new planes valued at $4,6 billion at list price.

China Airlines will be the second Taiwanese airline to operate the Boeing 787, EVA Air was the first company to operate the model.

The agreement also provides airline rights to order the -10 version, the largest of the 787 family.

The new planes arrive to replace an old fleet of Airbus A330, in which the airline has 22 aircraft of the type with an average age of 14 years. Despite the option for Boeing in the long-haul fleet, China Airlines will exchange its 737-800 for the new Airbus A321neo.
