The COVID-19 pandemic caused extensive changes in the aviation sector, many in radical ways, never seen before at this speed.

And even with the aviation sector still not fully cleared, Regional Express, an Australian airline also known as Rex, is planning its growth.

A Rex is finalizing a deal to take up to 10 Boeing 737s that previously operated from competitor Virgin Australia. The company's intention with these planes is to leave an operation with only turboprops, and start to compete with the main ones in the country.

The Boeing 737s will be allocated to flights between Australia's state capitals initially. After the pandemic, the company is also considering some calls to cities in Oceania.

The same aircraft is used by Qantas and Virgin. The Boeing 737 flies domestically from Melbourne to Sydney, Sydney to Brisbane and the like, as well as short-haul international flights.

Negotiations with leasing companies are already taking place on the part of Rex. In addition, the company has an additional R$30 million to be raised through property and aircraft sales, as well as a US$54 million donation from the Australian government.
