If for some engers, the seat with the window is a matter of contention to make the flight less boring, the Virgin Australia innovated by announcing a specific lottery for engers who chose the middle seat.
Via a social media survey in May 2022, Virgin Australia found that travelers are less likely to choose a middle seat, with less than 1% intentionally selecting a middle seat as their first choice of travel.
With that, the company announced that US $350.000 will be allocated in 26 weekly draws until April 2023, with prizes ranging from tickets to sporting events, accommodation in tourist spots on a luxury cruise, a helicopter ride for a day and a special prize of US $145.000, equivalent to R$771 at current exchange rates.
“Virgin Australia is an airline that is doing things differently and we are having a lot of fun with exciting innovations to make every part of the travel experience more wonderful”, said Jayne Hrdlicka, CEO of Virgin Australia Group.
After the announcement of the unusual lottery, it is quite likely that the middle seats will be more disputed, an idea that was highly praised by experts, but that still may be reluctance by engers who prefer to travel close to the window.
