After being recognized as a Green Airport and renewing its accreditation for reducing carbon emissions at level 2, through the Airport Council International (ACI) program, Belo Horizonte International Airport takes off with a new initiative in favor of the environment and has just launched a charging station for electric cars and plug-in hybrids, capable of refueling two cars at the same time.
The points were installed in the P+ car park and recharging is free for airport car park customers. The project is a pilot project and will evaluate the possibilities of expansion to the other aprons of the airfield.
“ESG is an important strategic pillar at our terminal and several environmental, social and governance initiatives are in place. We all can and must do our part to protect natural resources. The installation of these points is one more way to contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions”, evaluates the CEO of BH Airport, Kleber Meira.
At the airport, the drop in emissions is a reality. To give you an idea, since participating in the ACI program, reductions in greenhouse gas emission sources increased from 2.480 tons in the first year of participation, in 2017, to 584,6 tons in 2021.
“Thanks to the results, we received this year, for the third time, the carbon accreditation and we are focused on evolving and achieving recognition at level 3, which says a lot about the involvement of people with the practices adopted by the airport”, Explica.
Green Airport
In October, Belo Horizonte International Airport took another step towards consolidating itself as the most sustainable in the country. The mining terminal received, for the second consecutive year, the Green Airport Recognition during the Annual Assembly Conference & Exhibition ACI-LAC 2022, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The renovation of the Cold Water Plant was highlighted during the event and also received an honorable mention as a sustainable project in the areas of Energy Efficiency, Water Reuse and Maintenance Cost.
