A large uninhabited area, tanks and soldiers in action. It was in this scenario that the simulation that marks the end of Operation Formosa 2021 took place, in the place called Pedra do Fogo. The environment is part of the Army Artillery Command, in Formosa, Goiás.
The President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro; the Minister of Defence, Walter Souza Braga Netto; and authorities attended the operative demonstration. Operation Formosa has existed since 1988 to prepare marines for the Navy, focusing on Amphibious Operations.
The simulation involves conquering territory using different means: helicopters, planes, armored combat vehicles, in addition to long-range weapons with the execution of real shots.
The Operations Officer of the Marine Corps Force, Captain of Sea and War (FN) Max Guilherme de Andrade e Silva reported that there is a whole for the military to keep in touch in the course of the activity.
“If the distances to be covered exceed the reach of our radio equipment, we make retransmission points. Without communication, we cannot do training in its fullness”, clarified.
Every year, training is held for Navy personnel. This year, it is t, with of the three Armed Forces. Captain Raphael Nóbrega dos Santos is the head of the Land Force's tactical operations team in Operation Formosa.
“Working with the Navy has expanded our synergy and helps us to put ourselves in the same framework of procedures, understand the way they think and act. This adds a very large capacity for future operations”, evaluated.
In this Operation, Army assets are used, such as the ASTROS 2020, a multiple rocket launcher system.
Several models of Air Force aircraft were also used and each one has its function.
“We use the R-99 aircraft in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions; already the A-29 fighter aircraft, for attack and close air ”, explained Lieutenant Colonel Aviator Rodrigo Lordêlo de Santana. An airplane was also used to launch parachute troops and to carry out surveillance of the airspace.
