The Croatian Air Force wants to modernize its war power and for that it will launch a request to five nations to choose a new fighter. The Ministry of Defense of the country has already selected the five nations, they are Sweden, USA, South Korea, Israel and Greece.
The exchange of aircraft has to take place because the Croatian air force has fighters from the former USSR, the MiG 21, which are already quite old. Since 2009, the country has become a member of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), which fulfills missions involving armed forces. And in 2013 they ed the European Union.
Some new vectors may be part of the Croatian Air Force in the future, replacing the MiG 21, the Gripen fighter is quoted for this role, as Saab plans to offer the model to the country. The F-16 fighter is also in competition, as Croatia has long been interested in using an American aircraft with low operating costs.
According to the country's defense minister himself, the idea is that the first new fighter jets in Croatia should arrive by 2020, if the acquisition is carried out later this year.
