Omnisys, a Strategic Defense Company (EED) and Brazilian subsidiary of the Thales Group, announced the g of a contract for the modernization of nine air traffic control radar systems, awarded by the Airspace Control System Implementation Commission (CISCEA), linked to the Airspace Control Department (DECEA) of the Brazilian Air Force. In addition, another new radar station was delivered, this time in Presidente Prudente, which represents the milestone of 133 Air Traffic Control radars that operated in Brazilian airspace.
The modernization of the nine radars includes the improvement of radars with advanced technology that allows 3D detection of low and high-speed targets, in addition to the integration between Mode S and the ADS-B system, enabling greater precision in the identification of cooperative and non-cooperative aircraft. The update also includes electronic protection resources to operate even under electromagnetic interference, ensuring continuous and effective surveillance.
This advanced technology is also installed at the recently inaugurated Presidente Prudente radar station, which features the LP23SST-NG Primary (en route) radar and the RSM970S-NG Secondary surveillance radar. The inauguration of this radar station complements the strategy of keeping Brazilian skies increasingly safe. Certified by the Ministry of Defense as a Strategic Defense Product (PED), the primary and secondary radars of the new radar station were installed with future integration capability with IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) Mode 4 NSM.
The radar station will expand air traffic surveillance capabilities, significantly improving safety and operational efficiency at Presidente Prudente airport, the third busiest in the interior of the State of São Paulo, which currently serves around 21.000 engers per month, with flights operated by all major airlines in Brazil.
“This modernization initiative represents a strategic step in the renewal of the radar network in Brazil, ensuring greater operational reliability and alignment with current air traffic control demands,” said Air Force Lieutenant Brigadier Maurício Augusto Silveira de Medeiros, Director General of DECEA. DECEA is proud of the significant operational advances and the level of efficiency achieved in the Brazilian airspace control system, recognized as a global benchmark. Omnisys, thanks to its cutting-edge solutions and commitment to nationalization, is a key partner of the Brazilian Air Force. We greatly value this partnership and hope to continue collaborating to further enhance our capabilities.”
“With 133 Air Traffic Control and Management radars produced and delivered in Brazil, Omnisys reaffirms its commitment to delivering the best in technology, contributing to the safety of Brazilian airspace. Local production not only reinforces, but also highlights our dedication to innovation to meet the specific needs of our customers. The modernization contract is essential to maintain the installed base of radars at the highest technological level, in addition to ensuring high operational reliability. We are committed to developing technologies that face current and future challenges, reaffirming our dedication to Brazil”, concludes Rodrigo Modugno, President of Omnisys.
