Delta Air Lines has severed its codeshare partnership with Russian state-owned Aeroflot, Russia's largest airline. The US company justified Russia's attack on Ukraine as the reason for the end of the partnership.
All services in partnership with Aeroflot are already unavailable in Delta's system, this includes the issuance of new tickets and services of the Russian airline. Customers who have already issued an Aeroflot ticket through the Delta Air Lines system will normally be served.
Delta and Aeroflot are of the SkyTeam global alliance, which has not yet taken a position on the continued presence of the Russian airline in the alliance.
“We removed our code from services operated by Aeroflot beyond Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport and removed the Aeroflot code from services operated by Delta from Los Angeles and New York-JFK”, says the carrier. “Reaccommodations will be made for customers affected by these changes.”
This last Thursday (24) the UK has banned the presence of civilian Russian planes in its airspace. Russia retaliated by banning UK airlines from its airspace.
