Deliveries of these aircraft will be carried out from 2022 by Boeing. The company is betting on the growing demand for cargo transport as a justification for ordering new aircraft.

Boeing reported the orders in its December 2020 activity, although the deal was not previously disclosed.

“While the current health crisis has brought many areas of life to a halt, global trade has not come to a halt”, said DHL Express Chief Executive John Pearson.

“Globalisation, digitization and unprecedented demand from our customers during the recent high season”, boosted DHL's e-commerce shipment volumes by more than 40% in the fourth quarter, adds Pearson. “E-commerce is an enduring mega-trend.”

DHL and its d companies have already ordered 14 777Fs, of which 10 have already been delivered. Including four jets not yet delivered from the previous order, DHL's 777F backlog with Boeing now stands at 12 planes.

Boeing is expected to deliver at least 41 Boeing 777F aircraft in the coming years.

Freighter 777 can fly 9200 km with a payload of 102.010 kg. The maximum capacity of the plane is 108 tons of cargo. The plane's long range translates into significant savings for carriers like DHL, as fewer stops reduce landing fees, congestion, cargo handling costs and delivery times.
