The AMX A-1 fighter-bomber Brazilian Air Force (FAB) his story will be told in a documentary that will be released next year. Bullseye! – The AMX Program was produced by the agency Hunter Press as a four-episode web series, covering the genesis of the project to the jet's current operation in the air force.
The A-1 was developed in partnership with Italy and when it entered service in the early 1990s, it revolutionized the FAB as the most modern and capable aircraft in the country at the time, highlighting its payload capacity, autonomy and high technology on board, giving great precision in hitting targets on the ground.
These characteristics are reflected in the name of the project itself, as explained by writer and journalist João Paulo Moralez, creator of the documentary, in an interview with Aeroflap Portal.

“Bullseye represents a hit on the target. When the AMX went into operation, it brought this characteristic of an aircraft with precision in navigation and the use of its missions. At the same time, the program was a success for the Brazilian aeronautical industry”, Explain. “Everything that was learned with the AMX reverberates today. With him, Brazil learned how to make landing gear. We learned to work on binational programs, integrate systems, use software at more advanced levels. The industry won and this was one of the main purposes of the AMX program.”
João says that the work on the AMX was conceived in 2019, with recordings beginning two years later, after agreements with the Aeronautics Social Communication Center (CECOMSAER). The images were captured mainly at the Santa Maria Air Base, in Rio Grande do Sul, where the Poker and Centauro squadrons, which operate the fighter-bomber, are located. Other recordings took place in Rio de Janeiro.
For the journalist, the biggest challenge was logistics, since the agency is based in São Paulo. “We always take a tripod, light, audio equipment, as well as our luggage, so it causes difficulties. If you have three days of recording, you can consider two days of travel.” On the other hand, he highlights that the partnership with the Air Force and CECOMSAER is fundamental for the production of this and other projects, such as Tucano 35 e Joker- Fighter Pilot School.
And speaking of other projects, João states that anyone who has seen other documentaries can expect even better images in the series about AMX, but with the agency's already well-known signature. Bullseye will be available to the public in the first quarter of 2024, when the A-1 AMX completes 35 years of activity in the FAB.
