Since the beginning of 2019, Brazilians have seen the value of the dollar rise. In July, it sured BRL 4,00, reaching BRL 4,17, and since then it has oscillated around that.
To understand the impact of the rise on Brazilians' search for travel, the KAYAK, the largest travel search tool in the world, carried out a survey that indicates the 15 cities that have grown the most in searches since August. Domestic options are highlighted:
Curitiba leads the ranking and destinations in the South and Northeast regions of the country are the majority. The only international city on the list is Santiago, which, as it is in South America, is related to the trend of looking for less dollarized destinations. “With the high dollar, it is natural for the traveler to look for national destinations and in Latin America, since they offer a more affordable day-to-day cost”, comments Eduardo Fleury, Operations Leader for KAYAK in Brazil.
It is important to point out that the rise in the dollar also impacts domestic airline ticket prices, as several of the factors that determine these prices are calculated in dollars.
"For those still looking to travel abroad, we recommend purchasing tickets at least three to four months in advance of your travel date. According to KAYAK's history, this practice can offer travelers much cheaper prices. For national tickets, the ideal advance is one month”, adds Fleury.

For the growth table, the travel date considered was from October 01, 2019 to December 31, 2019. The search period compared was from July 9 to August 9, 2019 (1 month before the dollar reached 4 reais ) from August 10 to September 10, 2019 (1 month with a dollar above 4 reais).
