Despite operating only with new generation aircraft, airBaltic seems to be facing some difficulties with its Airbus A220s.

According to Martin Gauss, who is CEO of the company, six planes are currently out of operation due to lack of spare parts on the market. Problems in supply chains are also being faced by aircraft manufacturers, as we mentioned Clicking here.

For this reason, Gauss explained that the company's fleet, made up of 36 Airbus A220 aircraft, is currently smaller, causing some flight delays. The company is also facing several limitations of operations in some European airports, which causes even more problems for the flight network.

“Currently, global supply chain issues are forcing six of our aircraft to remain on the ground because spare parts are missing for regular maintenance work”, explained Gauss.

“Frankly, I think the supply chain issues are likely to last into 2023, maybe the end of 2023”, said Safran Chief Executive Olivier Andriès.

To get around the problem, the company temporarily leased six A220 aircraft from Swiss, to be used in its fleet. Some Boeing 737s from Ukraine International Airlines are also entering the network through wet-lease contracts.

AirBaltic's Airbus A220 have a configuration to carry up to 145 engers in a 2×3 distribution.
