Skywest recently presented its results for the 1st quarter of 2021 (1Q21), where the company had a great market recovery based on regional flights, and the return of some planes to the operation.
The company detailed that it had a profit of US$ 36 million in 1Q21, mainly caused by the return of the Embraer E175 to the company's regional flights in partnership with American Airlines, as well as the increase in operations over the three months.
The E175 flew more hours a day than any Skywest plane in the 1st quarter of 2021, according to the company report. There were more than 128 flight hours with the E175 planes in total.
The Embraer E175 was even more used compared to the 1st quarter of 2021, when aviation in the United States was not so affected by the pandemic.
In the same period, with the airline still facing a reduction in operations, revenue of $535 million is a 27% drop from the first quarter of 2020.
Skywest currently has a fleet of:
- 193 Embraer E175 aircraft
- 40 Bombardier/MHI CRJ900 planes
- 98 Bombardier/MHI CRJ700/MHI planes
- 137 Bombardier/MHI CRJ20 planes
More Embraer E175 aircraft to the fleet
The company disclosed that a contract with American Airlines foresees the delivery of more aircraft in 2021, to reinforce operations in the 2nd half.
There are about 18 new factory-built E175s that will be delivered by Embraer to Skywest in the second half of 2. Two more deliveries will be made in 2021, according to the airline.
The advance will be paid through Skywest financing.
