Embraer launches the A-29N Super Tucano in NATO configuration

Embraer announced today, during LAAD Defense & Security 2023, the launch of the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft, a light attack, armed reconnaissance and advanced training aircraft, in the configuration of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), with an initial focus on in meeting the needs of European nations. The new version of the aircraft, named A-29N, will include equipment and features to meet NATO operational requirements, such as a new datalink, single-pilot operation, among other modifications.

Such functionalities will further increase the possibilities of using the aircraft, allowing for example its use in JTAC training missions, from English t Terminal Attack Controller. Training devices will likewise be upgraded to the world's most demanding standards, including virtual, augmented and mixed reality.

“This is a new stage in the operational life of the A-29 Super Tucano,” said Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “We see a lot of application possibilities for the A-29N right now. Several European countries have shown interest in specific capabilities of the aircraft that we are now introducing with this version.”  

With more than 260 units delivered worldwide, the aircraft has been selected by more than 15 air forces worldwide, including the United States Air Force (USAF).

Developed as an extremely versatile aircraft, the A-29 can carry out a wide range of missions including light attack, aerial surveillance and interception, and counterinsurgency. Robust and versatile, the A-29 has the ability to operate from remote, unpaved runways in advanced operating bases with little logistical , all of this combined with low operating costs and high availability (over 90%).

In addition to combat roles, the aircraft is widely used as an advanced trainer. Its ability to simulate combat missions and and flight data made it a highly effective training platform. As a true multi-mission aircraft, the A-29 is flexible enough to provide air forces with a single platform for light attack, armed reconnaissance, close air and advanced training, thereby optimizing their fleets.

It is equipped with a variety of state-of-the-art sensors and weapons, including an electro-optical/infrared system with laser designator, night vision goggles, secure voice and data communications. For all that, the A-29 Super Tucano represents the best of its class, combining outstanding performance with 21st century weapons, integrated sensors and surveillance systems to create a highly effective component of airpower.
