Embraer Legacy 450 sets speed record for transatlantic flight between US and Europe

Embraer announced today that its Legacy 450 business jet set a new transatlantic speed record during a recent flight between Portland, United States, and Farnborough, United Kingdom.

The record was ed by the National Aeronautical Association of the United States (NAA, in English).

The flight took place on March 7, 2018 with two pilots and two engers in the transfer of a demonstration aircraft, which debuts a new seat design and cabin altitude, the lowest in its category, at the 18th EBACE, European executive aviation exhibition and convention , in Geneva, Switzerland.

The aircraft took off at 9:25 am from Jetport International Airport (KPWM) and landed at Farnborough Airport (EGLF) at 20:30 pm (local time), reaching an average speed of 840 km/h (521.89 mph).

The Legacy 450 landed with a fuel reserve above the minimum required for NBAA IFR operation as well as critical operations. The flight lasted a total of 6 hours and 5 minutes, covering a distance of 5.105 km (2.576 nautical miles).

The Legacy 450 has a range of 5.371 km (2.904 nautical miles) and capacity for four engers and NBAA IFR reserves, and can operate at up to Mach 0.83 with a maximum altitude of 45 feet. The new Legacy 450 features a new seating design and the lowest cabin altitude in its class (5.800 feet). The aircraft's environmental control system also preserves the cabin altitude at sea level while flying below 27.050 feet.

The NAA confirmed that the flight performed set a speed record in the United States and the International Aeronautical Federation also awarded the world speed record.
