Embratur and Latam together evaluate the ways to develop a pilot sustainability project focusing on itineraries and experiences. While preserving the environment, the initiative will increase the supply of Brazilian destinations abroad, attracting more international tourists to Brazil.

The president of Embratur, Marcelo Freixo, considered the meeting very productive. “We talk about sustainability, which is a topic very dear to Embratur and one of the most debated topics in the world, and in air connectivity. These are talking points, because the fight against climate change and the proximity between countries are fundamental for international tourists to decide where they are going. And Brazil is the reference country when it comes to environmental protection – we will host COP-30 in 2025 and this is something that we can strengthen our image with effective actions”, he stated.

According to the director of Corporate, Regulatory and Sustainability Affairs at Latam in Brazil, Maria Elisa Curcio, there is a mutual desire to work together. “For us, it is essential that Embratur has a leading role within the structure when we talk about promoting Brazil [abroad]. Brazil is the showcase of sustainability in the world. And Latam, as the main company in the airline sector today, has the opportunity to be with the president of Embratur and work in partnerships. This brings a lot of growth opportunities for Latam and tourism in general,” she commented.

Proximity to airlines

The director of International Marketing, Business and Sustainability at Embratur, Jaqueline Gil, who also participated in the meeting, highlighted that international tourism in Brazil depends on the airline sector to happen. “For Embratur, connections and partnerships with airlines are essential for our business. And Latam is the Brazilian airline with the greatest degree of depth on the topic of sustainability. Working on this agenda and building projects together is very important,” she noted.

Also according to Jaqueline Gil, Embratur and airlines need well-designed programs with regard to performance at major events, such as the G20 Leaders' Summit, which takes place in Brazil in November this year, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ) , and the 30th UN Conference on Climate Change (COP-30), which will take place in November 2025 in Belém (PA). “And from a connectivity point of view, we need to expand and facilitate our connections with South America. And Latam is the company that owns this network”, she added.

Embratur's Multimodal Transport Demand Coordinator, Philipe Karat, spoke about projects to expand connectivity. “The objective is to reduce distances. Connect the North and Northeast regions to the northern hemisphere and expand connectivity from Africa, via Guarulhos (SP), to afrotourism destinations. We also talk a lot about connecting the main cities in South America, via Guarulhos and Brasília (DF), to provide more accessibility to destinations in the North, Northeast and Center-West”, he added.
