(Reuters) AT Emirates can switch its orders to the Boeing 777X, changing to another Boeing aircraft, the 787 Dreamliner. The airline may change its order based on an assessment of the market and the needs of the fleet.
Emirates is currently in talks with Boeing about its orders and which aircraft will be needed to adapt to the current scenario. When questioned this Monday (17th), President Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum itted that there is a possibility of modifying the order to Boeing.
The company had already made this change by reducing its order from 150 777X to 126, and soon after ordering 30 units of the Boeing 787-9 with deliveries scheduled for 2022.
Boeing has been having problems with the Boeing 777X, the aircraft suffered a major delay due to engines. Only in January 2020 performed its first flight, in the year that deliveries would have to start. Now with the latest reports released by Boeing, the first aircraft will be delivered in 2023 and not 2022 previously expected.
If Emirates modify your order, the company will cease to be the largest operator of the model in the future. The airline's CEO said that 2020 was a difficult year due to major travel restrictions, but that he is optimistic for a better season in the summer.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, which affected almost all of the company's cash flow, Emirates has analyzed its cash flow on a monthly basis, seeking to make its current operations more balanced.
From now on, Emirates should adopt a more conservative posture, according to the president. The company is still looking to restore its operations but will assess market conditions before making any changes to the network and also to the fleet.
