Although Boeing completed the final assembly of the first Boeing 777-9X for Emirates this week, deliveries of the new aircraft by Emirates may be delayed, at the request of the airline itself.
The company has not yet decided whether it will delay deliveries, but the 777-9X project itself is suffering a few months delay, something that can affect the company in a way that benefits its planning.
Meanwhile, Emirates continues to negotiate with Boeing a possible conversion of part of the orders for the 777X, and the Arab company wants to evaluate an order for the Boeing 787 again, without specifying a preferred version for the time being.
In any case, Emirates has 150 orders for the 777X, including some for the 777-8X, and any change for Boeing would mean a financial impact, as the 777X line is the highest acquisition value on its price list.
Emirates has previously negotiated an order for 40 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft, but the negotiations did not flow, and the 787-10 was left only in an announcement by the company in 2017, which opted for a mix of A330neo and A350XWB aircraft.
Tim Clark, CEO of Emirates, did not confirm whether the company has increased its interest in the 787-10 due to a recent performance boost, which Boeing realized for Air New Zealand.
In the Emirates fleet, the 777X is a good option to replace the A380, while it could replace the 777-300ER in the future. Perhaps Emirates will choose to use the 777-9X only to replace the A380.
