FAB and PF seize 6,5 kilos of drugs in Galeão

A Brazilian Air Force (FAB) and the Federal Police (PF) seized 6,5 kilos of drugs at Tom Jobim – Galeão International Airport, in Rio de Janeiro, last Saturday (03). The t action is part of Operation Ponte Aérea, which aims to curb the movement of illicit goods in the international ports and airport terminals of São Paulo (Guarulhos) and Rio de Janeiro.

The drugs were destined for the city of Frankfurt, . PF agents identified a suspicious suitcase through luggage inspection via x-ray. From this, they requested from the FAB military to carry out a sniffer action. Sniffer dogs from the Law and Order Guarantee Battalion (GLO) RJ, which are part of the Aeronautical Police, helped identify the material.

“The reinforcement of the kennel and the Air Force troops circulating around the clock at Galeão airport is bringing an upgrade in airport security and culminates in successful operations like today, based on a combination of efforts with other agencies”, says the Supervisor of the Federal Police Duty Team at Galeão Airport, Rodrigo Marques Varela. 

Since November 6, 2023, FAB military personnel have been operating at Galeão and Guarulhos airports, in accordance with Decree No. 11.765, of November 1, 2023, which aims to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking and weapons and other illicit conduct in ports and airports. In addition to searches of engers, luggage and employees, the activities involve extensive policing in lobbies, operational areas, cargo terminals and other sensitive points, identified by the Security Forces.
