FAB inaugurates the third radar station in Mato Grosso do Sul

On Wednesday (30), the Brazilian Air Force held the inauguration ceremony of the new radar station in Ponta Porã, the third in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The other two are located in Corumbá and Porto Murtinho and opened in August 2020 and March 2021, respectively.

The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, together with the Air Force Commander, Lieutenant-Brigadier Carlos de Almeida Baptista Junior, the Minister of Defense, Walter Souza Braga Netto, the Governor of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul , Reinaldo Azambuja Silva and other authorities. 

“This will provide us with peace and tranquility in the fight against illicit acts, drug and arms trafficking. This will bring peace to the center of our Brazil. It is a mission of our Air Force that makes us all proud”, said President Bolsonaro. The three stations were built in agreement with the Ministry of Justice, explained the FAB. 

The Air Force Commander explained the increase in operability with the new Ponta Porã radar station. “The acquisition of capacity arising from the operation of these three radars is consistent with the alignment of the objectives of the National Defense Strategy, which considers airspace surveillance an important responsibility for the consolidation of the other tasks of the Brazilian Air Force. What we see here today is equipment that combines the most advanced technologies in the world.”

Provider of air navigation services that make flights possible and organize air traffic flows in the country, the General Director of the Department of Airspace Control (DECEA), Lieutenant Brigadier João Tadeu Fiorentini, highlighted the importance of the inauguration of yet another high-tech equipment. “It has the capacity to contribute not only to airspace control, which is DECEA's main mission, but also to intercept non-collaborative aircraft, that is, a radar of great importance for our air defense. ”

The Governor of Mato Grosso do Sul, Reinaldo Azambuja Silva, highlighted the partnership and integration in favor of acting in the protection of borders in the State. “In the year 2020, our Security Forces with the Federal Forces seized more than 760 tons of drugs that would go to all of Brazil. Thank you for the sensitive look, because protecting the borders is protecting Brazil.”

National Manufacture

The radars are manufactured in Brazil by the company Omnisys in São Bernardo do Campo (SP), which allows quick and easy access to its entire production chain and speeds up technical assistance procedures by the manufacturer.

The project also provides for the absorption of technical knowledge by the Air Force Command (COMAER), with a view to carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance activities, minimizing logistics costs and maintaining a high level of equipment availability.
