A Brazilian air force (FAB) intercepted this Saturday (19) an EMB-810 (Piper PA-34) Seneca aircraft that was transporting 165 kilos of drugs, in the Amazon. Two A-29 Super Tucanos and an H-60L Black Hawk helicopter were used in the operation in conjunction with the Federal Police.

According to the FAB, the aircraft, an Embraer 810C Seneca with PT-EUN registration, was detected in the central region of Amazonas without a flight plan and was on a known route for drug trafficking. Thus, the twin-engine plane was then subject to Brazilian airspace policing measures (MPEA), as provided for in Decree 5.144, of July 16, 2004.

The aircraft made a forced landing in a sugarcane field near the city of Presidente Figueiredo, metropolitan region of Manaus (AM). The H-60 helicopter landed at the site with the Federal Police team, which complied with the Ground Control Measures (MCS), apprehending the illicit cargo.
The Commander of Aerospace Operations, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Sergio Roberto de Almeida, commented on the success of the t operation. “This Saturday's action proves the FAB's operational readiness. The capabilities of the Brazilian Aerospace Defense System allow consistent surveillance 24 hours a day, seven days a week”, said.

FAB permanent action
This Saturday's actions are part of Operation Ostium to curb illicit acts in Brazilian airspace, in which the Air Force and Public Security Agencies act together, in compliance with Decree No. 5.144 of July 16, 2004.
