Federal Government prepares package of measures to unlock the airline industry

The Ministry of Tourism resumed, this Tuesday (17/12), the debate with the working group that will discuss solutions to unblock the main bottlenecks in the airline industry.

Among the agendas discussed at the meeting were the reduction of the aviation kerosene tax (QAV), the increase in regional flights, tax and labor charges and airport infrastructure.

In addition to the MTur, the group is made up of from Embratur, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), the Brazilian Airlines Association and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). 

Appointed by the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, the National Secretary for Interinstitutional Integration, Bob Santos, accompanied the meeting. During the meeting, Santos highlighted the actions that Pasta has been carrying out since the beginning of the year to improve the business environment, increase the competitiveness of the sector and reduce ticket prices.

“Minister Marcelo Álvaro was a protagonist in the actions for the opening of foreign capital that attracted more airlines to fly to Brazil, and he has spoken personally with representatives of other companies, presenting the Brazilian market. We need to work together with everyone who contributes directly and indirectly to Brazilian aviation”.

Among the objectives that will guide the group's work, the search for a balance between supply and demand with more effective public policies, to make transport modes, in this case air, more integrated and structured. Airport infrastructure improvements, increased competitiveness among companies, connectivity and attraction of investments are some of the initiatives to be developed. The group undertook to draw up a draft of acts for each body that should be presented in January.

 

WORK GROUP – On a visit to Gol’s headquarters, in São Paulo (SP), carried out in September, the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, proposed the creation of a working group that, among other objectives, would seek to reduce the price of airline tickets , in addition to increasing the number of routes to serve various tourist destinations in the country.

In addition, Álvaro Antônio met with representatives of Brazilian airlines to discuss connectivity in the country. At the time, the companies announced that the network will be fully replenished by January 2020 and that it will be the largest fleet during the summer season since 2015.
