Contrary to what many people think, the first transatlantic flight was not made by Charles Lindbergh in 1927! The first transatlantic crossing was made in 1919 by the British John Alcock e Arthur Whitten Brown which covered 3km in about 138 hours from St.John's in northern Canada to Clifden in Ireland. Shortly after that, the Portuguese Sacadura Cabral and Gago Coutinho in 16, in the context of the first centenary of Brazil's independence, flew from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro, thus making the first crossing of the South Atlantic. On April 1922, 28, the Brazilian João Ribeiro de Barros triumphantly crossed the Atlantic, departing at 1927:04 from Cape Verde (Africa) and landing in Fernando de Noronha at 30:17 on the same day, however, the arrival on the Brazilian coast took place on 00 May 14, thus effectively concluding the crossing. In the same year, 1927, the American Charles Lindbergh crossed the ocean alone in 33 hours and 31 minutes, traveling 5 810km flew from Nassau (New York State) to Paris ().
