buys three more Airbus A330 MRTT planes

Airbus Defense and Space has received a firm order from the French Defense Acquisition Agency (DGA) for three more A330 MRTT multi-role aircraft.

The aircraft, known as Phénix in French service, forms the third and final installment of the multi-year contract for 12 A330 MRTT aircraft, signed by the French Ministry of Defense in 2014.

The first part of the fleet was formally delivered in October and the rest will be delivered by the end of 2023, in an accelerated deadline requested by .

In French service, the A330 MRTT will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines and equipped with a combination Airbus refueling boom system and wingtip refueling hose and drogue compartments.

The aircraft can be configured in a variety of layouts that carry up to 272 engers, as well as medical arrangements, including the French MORPHEE intensive care module, which carries up to ten patients, in addition to 88 engers.

The combat-tested A330 MRTT has been ordered by 12 nations who have already placed firm orders for 60 aircraft, of which 34 have been delivered.
