The GE9X engine, manufactured by GE Aviation, earned a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title as the highest thrust jet engine for commercial aircraft, with an output of 134300 pounds.

The previous record was held by GE itself, which reached 127900 pounds with a test GE90-115B engine.

This record was broken during a design test on November 10, 2017 at GE's Peebles, Ohio facility. A ceremony was held this past Friday at GE facilities as part of the 100th anniversary celebration of the company's first engine.

Despite having greater power, the GE9X should operate at a lower power compared to the GE90-115, to collaborate with fuel economy, since the aerodynamic and structure improvements of the 777X allow a general decrease in power.

“While we have not set out to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title, we are proud of the engine's performance, which is a testament to our talented employees and partners who design and build exceptional products for our customers”, said David Joyce, president and CEO of GE Aviation.

The highlight of the GE9X is that it is one of the largest turbofan engines on the market, with a 134-inch front fan and 16 stages of blades in the hot part, which provides a 27:1 by for the engine, the largest on the market.

Engine certification testing continues and should be completed later this year.

The GE9X power record was first announced by the Portal Aeroflap team during the Paris Airshow 2019, which took place in the 3rd week of June.
