Last Monday (21), GOL operated its first flight with the Boeing 737 MAX 8 model in Carajás (CKS), in Pará. Coming from Confins (CNF), the most sustainable aircraft in the GOL fleet arrived in Carajás in the early afternoon, and made CKS the 53rd base served by GOL to receive this Boeing model. GOL already operates regular flights between Confins and Carajás on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will now be able to continue serving this market with the MAX8.
Today, GOL has 38 Boeing 737 MAX8 aircraft in Brazil, all in operation, with a forecast to reach 75 – half of its fleet – by the end of 2025. Thus, the Company reiterates its commitment to the constant renewal of its fleet, making use of more modern and efficient planes, reducing costs and generating less pollutants.
The 737 MAX is a key component of the Company's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, as this model is 15% more fuel efficient, generates 16% less carbon emissions and is 40% quieter in compared to the 737-800 NG. “Since 2019, GOL has already exceeded 240.000 flight hours with MAX aircraft, saving 115,2 million liters of aviation fuel and reducing GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions by 364,032 thousand tons.”
“The entire commercial aviation sector is very focused on ESG and GOL's goal is to establish an operation that is 100% committed to the environment, including being the only Brazilian airline to obtain the Internship certificate 2 IenvA (IATA Environmental Assessment). Expanding the bases to which we fly with the MAX8 is a fundamental part of achieving our goals in sustainability”, said André Cruz, COO (Chief Operation Officer) of GOL.
