The Government of Pernambuco announced, this Thursday (17.12), the suspension of the 2021 Carnival, due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The decision is valid for the entire state and was based on the current epidemiological moment and disease indicators. The state secretary of Health, André Longo, highlighted the weight of this decision-making, since the event is one of the most important dates on the state calendar.
“This is not an easy decision, as Carnival represents much more than a party for the people of Pernambuco. It is a fact that, by February, we will not have most of the population vaccinated. And, in the current context of a pandemic, there is no possibility of holding an event of this size, which mobilizes crowds and is, by its nature, a moment of proximity and agglomeration”, punctuated André Longo.
According to the Secretary of Health, last Saturday (05.12), Pernambuco closed the Epidemiological Week (SE) 50 with a rise in the indicators of ICU requests and cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Srag), which configured the week as the 4th in a row with an increase in epidemiological levels. In SE 50, there was an increase of 2,5% in cases of suspected SRAG for Covid-19, in comparison with SE 49, and of 9,8% in relation to SE 48.
DECREE – Also this Thursday, the Government of Pernambuco published a new decree extending the State of Public Calamity, due to the pandemic, until June 30, 2021. The validity of the new decree is 180 days and begins to take effect in January 1, 2021. “This is a fundamental measure for dealing with Covid-19, including the logistical efforts that we will have to make to make vaccination viable, and demonstrates the commitment of the Government of Pernambuco to the health of the population”, André Longo pointed out.
BEDS – Last week, in view of the increase in cases of the new coronavirus, the State Government announced that it would put in operation more beds available to patients suspected or confirmed for Covid-19. The plan, which will benefit all four health macro-regions in the state, is already being put into practice.
According to the Health Department, so far 151 beds have been opened, 50 in the ICU and 101 in the ward at the UPAE in Petrolina (10 beds in the ICU and 30 in the ward); at Hospital Mestre Vitalino, in Caruaru (10 ICU beds); at Hospital Eduardo Campos, in Serra Talhada (10 ICU spaces); at Maternidade Brites de Albuquerque, in Olinda (10 in the ICU and 20 in the ward); at Real Hospital Português (10 ICU beds); in addition to Hospital Agamenon Magalhães (HAM), which opened 51 infirmary beds.
During the press conference, Secretary André Longo also announced the opening of nine new ICU beds at HAM, which will start operating later this Thursday. “The Government of Pernambuco continues to work tirelessly to guarantee assistance to the population, the process of surveillance and monitoring of the disease and the arrival of the vaccine. But all efforts will be of no use if the population is not part of this fight against the virus. It is necessary to incorporate physical distancing, frequent hand washing and the use of a mask into everyday life”, emphasized Longo.
HEALTH PROFESSIONALS – Governor Paulo Câmara authorized the appointment of over 77 professionals approved in a public tender to reinforce various services linked to the State Health Secretariat (SES-PE). In the call, published in the Official Gazette this Thursday (17.12), pharmacists (12), physiotherapists (12), respiratory physiotherapists (26), speech therapists (7) and sanitarians (20) are being summoned, with vacancies filled in all Regional Health Managements (Geres), with the aim of qualifying assistance at this time of the new coronavirus pandemic.
The 20 sanitarians will work at the headquarters of all 12 Regional Health Managements (Geres). Pharmacists will be assigned to Pharmacies in Pernambuco de Limoeiro (II Geres), Garanhuns (V), Salgueiro (VII), Ouricuri (IX), Afogados da Ingazeira (X) and Serra Talhada (XI). The other positions will go to the Otávio de Freitas, Getúlio Vargas, Barão de Lucena and Restauração hospitals, in Recife; and in the Regional do Agreste, in Caruaru.
To face the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government of Pernambuco has already appointed 3.036 professionals approved in a public tender for services directly linked to the State Health Department. Adding this number to the public selections and public selections of SES-PE and the UPE Hospital Complex, there are more than 8,1 thousand professionals called. At the most critical moment of the pandemic, more than 1,8 who were working in outpatient clinics, in elective situations, were still recruited and moved to the front line of the hospital network or for assistance in the Consulte em Casa app.
“Since the beginning of his istration, Governor Paulo Câmara has always had a keen eye on intensifying the qualification of the state health network, with the expansion of human resources to strengthen the SUS hospital network. With the Covid-19 pandemic, no efforts were spared to call candidates and also to carry out simplified selections so that the entire network was able to meet the demands of what is the most serious public health emergency of the last 100 years” , concluded secretary André Longo.
