Helibras delivered two more H225M to the Brazilian Armed Forces, the first was destined to the Brazilian Army, which will operate it in the 1st BAvEx based in Taubaté, where the Brazilian Army's rotary wing squadron is located.
The second H225M was delivered to the FAB (Brazilian Air Force), to be operated in the 3rd/8th GAV based in Rio de Janeiro. In this squadron, the aircraft will fulfill the SAR service (focused on search and rescue missions). With this new helicopter, the FAB already has 12 units of the aircraft. In 2017, Helibras should deliver four more H225M, these four will be part of the Brazilian Navy's rotary wing fleet.
The factory responsible for building these helicopters is located in Itajuba-MG. One of the advantages of building the H225M (nomenclature in Brazil for the Eurocopter EC 725) is the ability to use national technology and investments from several companies in the aircraft. There are a total of 37 companies involved in the H225M project.
Altogether today in the sum of the 3 armed forces there are 28 units of the H225M. The H225M arrived in good time, as the FAB's Super Puma were already quite old. Having a rotary wing aircraft the size of the old Super Puma and Eurocopters is important for any nation.
The practicality that helicopters bring to the armed forces are countless, ranging from transporting cargo, soldiers, to presidential transport, which is the case of the GTE (Special Transport Group), headquartered at BABR (Brasília Air Base). As well as use in the PARA SAR service, for search and rescue, being able to reach remote places in the country.
