On the second weekend of July, Curitiba will become the biggest meeting point for aerospace nursing in Brazil. On the 8th and 9th, the city will receive nurses specializing in the care of air rescued or airborne patients, as well as other professionals who work directly or indirectly with air medical transport, for the 1st National Congress of the Brazilian Association of Aerospace Nursing (Conabraero).
Active in this type of service for ten years, Helisul will be present at the event as a sponsor and partner. In addition to offering one of the lectures in the program, entitled “The use of unmanned aircraft in aeromedical transport” and taught by aerospace engineer Lucas Fontoura, head of Helisul Drones. The company will also have a stand in the congress space to present its services.
The event aims to engage professionals in the area with the most up-to-date discussions in the scientific field to promote better patient care and has as its main theme “Technologies for the aerospace service of rescue and patient transport”.
However, according to the president of the Brazilian Association of Aerospace Nursing (Abraero) and flight nurse at Helisul, Michelle Taverna, the proposal covers more than technological devices and systems.
“When we talk about technology, we talk about light, light-hard and hard technologies. The hard ones are the materials, equipment, etc. They will be discussed in a lecture on unmanned aircraft, promoted by Helisul. The soft-hard ones are PPE, courses and training, and will appear in the lecture on PPE technologies. And the light ones are legislation and protocols, as in the case of the lecture on the protocol for death in flight. So we involved the technology in a much broader way.”, explains Michelle.
In addition to these, the congress will feature three international lectures: Colonel Antonio Gomes, from the Portuguese Air Force, and Marco Guerreiro, aeromedical transport coordinator in Angola, who will talk about their experiences in providing this type of service in their respective countries; and Professor Thais Russomano, who will talk about the main discussions related to space tourism.
Delivery of titles and collection of donations
Another attraction of the event will be the delivery of titles to professionals who were approved in the country's first title test focused on this category. Until recently, nurses who work in aeromedical transport were qualified to work if they had undergraduate and graduate degrees in the area, but this changed with Resolution No. 660/2021 of the Federal Nursing Council, which established the rules for exercising the profession.
One of these rules is the proof of knowledge in the area by taking a test, as with other categories, such as lawyers, who take the OAB exam. According to Michelle, the title test is now held annually.
There will also be a collection campaign for socks to be donated to day care centers, nursing homes and schools in the Curitiba region. “We started this campaign and we are going to collect money to raise awareness among people who are coming here and help people here”says Michelle.
According to the president of Abraero, socks are small enough to be brought in the suitcase by those coming from other cities and states, but they can make a big difference in the lives of those who don't have them.
