The only prototype of the Russian Ilyushin Il-112V military freighter was lost in an accident on Tuesday morning (17) in Kubinka, Moscow Oblast. The aircraft crashed shortly after a fire broke out on its right side, apparently from the Klimov TV7-117ST engine. The three crew , two pilots and a flight engineer, died in the accident.
In the video, the aircraft flies level at low altitude, when flames appear on its right side, gradually increasing. The aircraft then spins to the right, loses control and crashes, exploding on impact with the ground. The causes are being investigated.
The accident occurs months after UAC, which owns Ilyushin, resumed flights with the aircraft, on March 30, exactly two years after his inaugural flight in 2019. The Il-112V is the first all-new military transport aircraft developed in Russia since the end of the Soviet Union.
The Il-112 was developed to replace the Antonov An-26, carrying out missions to transport troops, materials, light vehicles and other loads weighing up to five tons. The aircraft can also land on unpaved runways.
