The new center began to be developed by the company in 2020. Based on the customer's requirements, it uses the most advanced and innovative technologies in the field of simulation and aims to train Guardia di Finanza crews who carry out air-naval operations.

The new center, unique in Europe, integrates advanced network simulation systems in a single environment.

The simulators fully mirror Leonardo's helicopters and planes, which were recently acquired by the Guardia di Finanza and which are used for a range of operational functions, in addition to the company's onboard mission systems, used among others for surveillance and identification.

Also included were a scenario simulator, also developed by Leonardo and capable of virtually generating an environment where platforms and personnel collaborate on a single mission, a vessel instrument simulator, which also introduces ships to a maritime environment and was developed in collaboration with Cetena (a company that is part of the also Italian Fincantieri), and a terrestrial command center that coordinates operations.

The new 'mini motion' simulators of the AW169/AW139 helicopters and P-72B aircraft, designated as Advanced Training Device (ETD e-Motion), reproduce the performance, avionics and cockpits with high fidelity and are able to provide adequate physical for the crew thanks to the actuators integrated into the platform.

Pilot training is complemented by rear crew training in situations using the Leonardo ATOS (Airborne Tactical Observation and Surveillance) mission system for the AW139 and P-72B, as well as in cabin lift operations, thanks to virtual reality. highly immersive search and rescue missions.

Thanks to these simulation capabilities, the Guardia di Finanza team will be trained in an environment capable of extremely realistically reflecting the interoperability normally required in current and future multi-domain scenarios, just like those where the Guardia di Finanza of Italy carries out its missions of security, surveillance, patrol and rescue

The center is an EASA Approved Training Organization and has obtained a Remotely Piloted Aircraft Training Certificate from ENAC (the civil aviation authority of Italy).

The center is located in hangar 'L' at the Air Base, has been adapted with from Leonardo and is fully integrated into the global network of the Leonardo Helicopter Training Academy.

Leonardo Training Academy led the initiative, bringing the highest international standard of flight and mission training provided by the company's various business areas.

This initiative is the result of the Guardia di Finanza's strong for the use of training simulation and Leonardo's relevant industrial and technological capabilities, which integrate fixed and rotary wing, electronics and sensors, in addition to training and experience in development and the use of “digital twins”.
