On the eve of the bicentenary of the Independence of Brazil, the heart of D. Pedro I will be transported from Portugal to Brazil on the wings of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB).
The transfer of the relic was one of the agendas of the meeting that took place this Friday (12/08), at the Air Force Command building, in Brasília (DF), between the FAB Commander, Air Force Lieutenant Carlos de Almeida Baptista Junior, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Alberto Franco França.
According to Minister Carlos França, it is the first time, in 187 years, that the heart of D. Pedro I leaves the city of Porto for a ceremony in Brazil.
“It is of great significance that the country receives the heart of its liberator. It is a relic that will be on display, with public visitation, at the Itamaraty Palace, from August 23 to September 8”He explained.
Still according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the transport of the organ is being planned with great care and will have the full of the Brazilian Air Force.
“If it weren't for that, we wouldn't be able to bring him on a commercial flight or on a charter flight. And that is very symbolic.”, scored.
The Ambassador also informed that the relic will be received with Honors from Heads of State in Brasília (DF). “And it will be a very relevant catalyst for the Independence bicentennial celebrations”, completed.
Lieutenant-Brigadier Baptista Junior added that the meeting was of great importance to strengthen the relationship between the FAB and the MRE.
“It was treated, in particular, about the arrival of the heart of Dom Pedro I, a relic that will arrive from Portugal, on the 22nd of August, in a FAB plane, after almost two centuries. In addition, the Minister came here to express the recognition of the MRE regarding the that the Air Force gives in humanitarian missions and in all requested events”, he stressed.
