Indian Air Force (IAF) receives first four Boeing CH-47F Chinook

The first four Boeing CH-47F Chinook heavy helicopters ordered by the Indian Air Force (IAF), arrived in the Asian country on February 10th.

The Indian Air Force has ordered 15 CH-47 Chinooks for $1,1 billion through a direct commercial sale agreement with Boeing. The initial agreement was signed in 2015.

The helicopters landed at the Port of Mundra, in the Indian state of Gujara located about 250 km north of the Indian capital. Delhi.

"The early arrival of the Chinooks validates Boeing's commitment to fulfilling its promise to modernize India's defense forces"said the company.

The new US-made helicopters are expected to replace the old Russian Mi Mi-26 “Halo” helicopters from the Soviet era, which entered service in the 1980s.

Earlier this month we reported that the Indian Air Force (IAF) had received the first example of the CH-47F (I) Chinook helicopter. The official delivery took place in Philadelphia and was attended by the Indian Ambassador to the USA, Harsh V Shringla.

In addition to the large American helicopter, India also operates the most famous attack helicopter in the world, the AH-64E Apache. In 2015 the Indian government ordered 22 units of the helicopter, making it the 14th nation to use the Apache.
