Infraero was announced to take over the management of Caruaru Airport, located in the countryside of Pernambuco. The announcement was made by the Minister of Ports and Airports (Mpor), Silvio Costa Filho, at an event held this Friday (1/3) in the city. The Company will assume the istration, operation and exploitation of the terminal upon publication in the Official Gazette of the Union.
 
Caruaru Airport – Oscar Laranjeira will be one of the airports covered by the National Aviation Plan (PAN) developed by Mpor, which will requalify the country's main regional airports and integrate transport modes. The Pernambuco terminal will be completely renovated and expanded to meet the projected commercial growth of the fourth largest municipality in the state in of population volume. Among the planned improvements is the construction of a new enger terminal, with an area of ​​6.000m² and capacity to serve 1,1 million engers per year, providing greater convenience and safety for travelers.
 
Another important intervention that will be carried out at the aerodrome is the expansion of the landing and take-off runway, from 1.800 to 2.250 meters. With this extension, the terminal will offer new flights and will be able to receive larger aircraft, such as Airbus and Boeing models, operated by the world's main airlines. The resources allocated to the project also include the construction of a new apron and new aircraft taxiways, including new access to hangars.
 
For the president of Infraero, Rogério Barzellay, the transfer of the granting of another terminal to Infraero reinforces the Company's expertise in airport management and its vocation for the development of regional aviation. “Infraero will now work to speed up the transition of operations and, in due course, announce an action plan for the airport, focusing on its potential demand and increased operations”, highlights Barzellay. 
 
About the Airport
The Airport is located approximately 125 km from the capital Recife. There is a school for training pilots, an aircraft maintenance workshop and a small aircraft factory. Furthermore, the city of Caruaru is the largest and main city in the interior of Pernambuco, being a hub for more than 1,5 million people in the state's countryside, in addition to being the 2nd largest clothing hub in Brazil, which increases the importance of the airport for the region.
