The handover took place at a ceremony that was attended by government officials from Alabama and executives from both companies. The newest plane in the JetSMART fleet has the image of a scarlet macaw on the tail, in line with its tradition of incorporating South American fauna as a way of generating local identity and knowledge about the species of the countries where the company operates.

At the event, the CEO of JetSMART took the opportunity to announce that this aircraft will be the first to land in Colombia as soon as domestic operation in that country is authorized. “JetSMART has domestic operations in Chile, Argentina and Peru, and we are in the final stages of technical certifications to start domestic operations in Colombia, and this will be the first aircraft that the country will receive, once we have all the necessary licenses to start operating. operates in the country.”

In turn, Arturo Barreira, President of Airbus for Latin America and the Caribbean, commented “the A320neo will increase the offer of routes and the continued growth of JetSMART in South America, thanks to the performance and efficiency of the aircraft”.

It is noteworthy that the seats of this new aircraft are manufactured by RECARO Aircraft Seating. They are lighter and equipped with sustainably produced leather – using leftover leather that has been repurposed from the leather industry – which brings multiple benefits, including reducing fuel costs by up to US$10 per aircraft per year, as this material is 48% lighter than traditional leather.

Thanks to this new aircraft, JetSMART Airlines, with more than 20 million engers transported in South America so far, now has a fleet consisting of 21 aircraft of the A320 and 5 A321neo models, totaling 26 aircraft so far. In addition, the ultra low-cost airline has an order for an additional 70 A320neo and 6 A320ceo aircraft, in addition to an order placed in 2021 for 12 A321XLR models and 23 additional neo aircraft.
