Joe Biden, the new president of the United States, declared on April 07 that supersonic planes are the big bet for the coming years.
Biden's speech was complemented by the presentation of his infrastructure improvement plan, also considering the development of supersonic aircraft for civil use, which will need to be approved by the FAA, a state agency.
“In the next 10 years… let's talk about commercial aircraft flying at supersonic speeds”, says Biden speaking with a photo of the supersonic Air Force One project, initially presented by Exosonic. “If we decide to do so, this aircraft will travel 2100 miles per hour (3380 km/h).”
Despite this, Biden has not stated whether the istration intends to advances in the area of supersonic planes. The new infrastructure plan also does not include direct aid for the development of these planes.
NASA and the FAA are collaborating on the development of new planes. Many companies in the United States are participating in parallel in this advance in aviation, such as Aerion and BOOM, with from other major, like Boeing and Lockheed, which still observe from afar, without protagonism.
Even before the Biden Government started, NASA was collaborating with Aerion and BOOM projects, all of which will be executed throughout this decade, and the first planes will be delivered in the second half of the next 10 years.
In addition to new engines, materials and aerodynamic refinements, companies that have active supersonic planes rely on a special authorization to carry out flights at supersonic speed above the continents.
