LATAM started a codeshare collaboration with Virgin Atlantic, sharing the flight code that can be purchased on a single ticket, to fly on both companies.
The focus of the partnership between the two companies is the route between London and São Paulo (GRU), currently operated only by LATAM. With the codeshare, Virgin gains connections within Brazil on LATAM flights, and the Latin airline on flights departing from London to all of Europe.
Delta Airlines, which currently owns around 49% of Virgin and 10% of LATAM, brokered this partnership between the two airlines.
LATAM will offer flights in this codeshare from, or landing in, twelve cities in Brazil, such as Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Florianópolis. Virgin Atlantic will have all Virgin flights available at Heathrow Terminal 3, but mainly connecting to India (Delhi), Hong Korg and Tel Aviv.
Juha Jarvinen, Commercial Director of Virgin Atlantic, commented:
“As we recover from the pandemic, partnerships are more important than ever and we look forward to building the incredibly successful interline relationship that we have had for several years. We also see opportunities beyond Brazil and look forward to further expanding our relationship to serve destinations throughout South America, including Peru and Colombia.”
“This new partnership aims to respond to the large and growing demand from leisure travelers who want to enjoy new experiences after a challenging 20 months. We know there is pent-up demand for long-haul travel and we look forward to welcoming customers aboard on their way to explore these exciting and vibrant Brazilian cities.”
