In an online vote held on October 1st and 2nd, the crew of LATAM Brasil decided to authorize the board of the SNA (National Union of Aeronauts) to negotiate with the company permanent changes in the remuneration model.
The permanent reduction in wages was widely discussed during the crisis, where LATAM laid off more than 2700 crew , in addition to ground employees. According to the company's CEO, Jerome Cadier, some changes needed to be permanent, to ensure the continuity of LATAM's operations.
The stalemate in reducing wages led to the dismissal of hundreds of crew , according to LATAM, the way found to preserve as much cash as possible.
On the other hand, Azul and GOL negotiated with the crew a temporary reduction in salaries, normalizing salaries from the end of 2021. In both companies, the proposal was approved with wide acceptance, and avoided mass layoffs.
In the SNA voting, the crew voted as follows:
- Commanders: 65,5% in favor and 34,5% against.
- Co-pilots: 65,4% in favor and 34,6% against.
- Commissioners: 55,7% in favor and 44,3% against.
In view of this result, the SNA will present the category's response to the TST (Superior Labor Court), mediator of the negotiation with LATAM, which will forward the next steps.
According to some LATAM crew , when questioned by the editors of Portal Aeroflap, the new base salary can be leveled with that of GOL Linhas Aéreas. As one of the oldest, LATAM claimed that it paid the highest salaries in the category, and this could not be sustainable in the medium and long term after this crisis.
