LATAM has prepared a list of 10 tips for customers who plan to travel with their pet during the July holidays. In all, the company has programmed 1,9 extra flights in Brazil to serve 3,6 million engers in the high season this mid-year.
Currently, LATAM offers three options for air transport so that dogs and cats can see the world or enjoy family vacations: in the cabin, with their guardian, in the aircraft's lower compartment, or via LATAM Cargo.
In all cases, some precautions must be taken in advance. Check the checklist below to ensure the safety and well-being of the animal during the trip.
1, CHECK THE HEALTH CONDITIONS: the plane is a safe means of transport, but the pressurization and altitude conditions are different during the flight. Therefore, before boarding, take your pet to the veterinarian for a check-up and obtain a health certificate valid for at least 10 days. Make sure he is vaccinated, dewormed and up to date on anti-rabies. Also, check the requirements for international travel stated in the LATAM website;
2.PAY ATTENTION TO THE BEHAVIOR: in addition to needing to have at least four months to live and be weaned, the pet must present a docile behavior for a peaceful trip. This aspect is important to ensure the safety and well-being of the pet, other engers and crew throughout the flight.
3.CHOOSE THE CORRECT TRANSPORT METHOD: we know that guardians would like to be able to travel very close to their pets, but sometimes it is not possible for security reasons or for better accommodation for your pet. LATAM allows the customer to travel with a dog or cat in the cabin, provided that the total weight of the animal in the transport box does not exceed the limit of seven kilos, and that it can be accommodated under the seat in front of the guardian. If they exceed these limits, pets can travel in the lower compartment of the plane or in special transport contracted with LATAM Position.
4. HAVE A KENNEL WITH THE PROPER SPECIFICATIONS: the kennel is the specific transport box for air travel, which must be resistant, waterproof and well ventilated, in addition to following some technical definitions that guarantee the safety and well-being of your pet. Before buying one, it's important to know your pet's weight and measurements so that he can stand up and comfortably settle inside the box. 5.PREPARE THE PET FOR THE TRIP: get your pet used to the kennel before the trip. Put him in the box for a few minutes a day and offer rewards like toys or treats. Thus, he will associate the kennel with a positive place and will not be surprised when boarding. Also take the opportunity to line the bottom of the kennel with a sanitary mat before the flight. 6. BOOK THE SERVICE IN ADVANCE: to travel with your pet in the cabin or in the lower compartment of the aircraft, it is necessary to book the service at least 48 hours before the flight by calling 0300 570 5700. The service is subject to availability and has an additional cost that varies according to the destination of the trip.
7. ARRIVE EARLY TO THE AIRPORT: To travel with your pet, you must arrive at the airport at least two hours in advance for domestic flights and three hours for international flights. It is also essential to present your pet's health certificate at the check-in counter, where the corresponding fee for the booked transport service is also paid.
8. FOLLOW THE SAFETY RULES: for trips with pets inside the cabin, it is not allowed to take them out of the kennel during the flight. This is a LATAM rule that ensures the safety of the pet, other engers and the crew.
