Almost nine tons of humanitarian aid destined for the victims of the heavy rains that hit the State of Pernambuco, between May and July of this year, were transported free of charge in recent days by LATAM. The amount was collected by the NGOs G10 Favelas and Movimento União BR and comprises more than 700 basic food baskets and personal hygiene kits, in addition to 55 dehydrated meals. The flights departed from São Paulo/Congonhas and Porto Alegre (RS) and were carried out by LATAM's Avião Solidário program, which for more than 10 years has made all of its logistical experience and connectivity available to South America for the free transport of people. , animals and loads in Health, Environment and Disaster emergencies.
The basic baskets are composed of essential foods such as rice, beans, pasta, tomato paste, and coffee. Hygiene kits have items such as shampoo, conditioner, soap and toothpaste. The amount of more than seven tons was collected by G10 Favelas and transported on six LATAM flights. Over the next few days, the institution's volunteers will distribute the items, focusing on more than 700 families in vulnerable situations in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, in the metropolitan region of Recife.
Last week, LATAM also ed Pernambuco by transporting more than 55 dehydrated meals in partnership with Movimento União BR, totaling almost 2 tons of cargo. The food, which has a high nutritional content and is focused on emergency aid, will be destined to more than 2 thousand families in the cities of Joaquim Nabuco, Cortês, Primavera, Água Preta, Barreiros, Palmares, Rio Formoso, Quipapá, São Benedito do Sul and Sao Jose da Coroa Grande.
