According to reports from people working at the site, the aircraft was performing a TGL, a go-around maneuver with touchdown on the runway. It is common for pilots to perform this maneuver during training, as well as in tests after aircraft maintenance.

As we can see from the photos above, the aircraft was badly damaged, the rear part practically separated from the fuselage. In addition, the plane damaged a fence on the site.

A fire and rescue team was called to attend to the accident. Flame retardant foam was thrown onto the plane to prevent a fire.

Three occupants were on the plane, according to the Fire Department. Unfortunately the commander of the aircraft, known as Avelar, died due to the accident, the other two occupants were injured.

Avelar was 76 years old and had a certificate from Gates and Bombardier as the longest-serving aviator on Learjet aircraft.

The aircraft was undergoing maintenance at Pampulha Airport, and this flight was carried out as a test, right after the procedure. The approach to perform the TGL was performed at high speed and without the landing gear activated, as we can see in the image above.
