Lufthansa's new Boeing 787-9 received the registration number D-ABPD, and the given name of 'Frankfurt am Main'. Despite being a new aircraft, it is three years old but has never been delivered to an airline.

The first flight of this Boeing 787-9 was in mid-July 2019 and it should have been delivered to China's Hainan Airlines. Then as stated on the website PlaneSpotters, the jet should have been ed on to Vistara of India, something that also never happened.

Like other aircraft, this Boeing 787-9 was stored at the American manufacturer's facilities and was considered 'white tail', which are planes that were never delivered to their respective operators and are resold to other companies at a lower cost.

Being a bet by Lufthansa for the long-haul fleet, the German airline placed an order for 32 examples of the Boeing jet.

The new plane arrives with a configuration for 294 engers divided into 26 engers in Executive, 21 in Economy and 247 in Economy. Starting next year, Lufthansa will present its new enger cabin concept, with the redesign of the Business Class suites.

The first Boeing 787-9 was delivered to Lufthansa at the end of August, under registration D-ABPA. The -9 variant is the most successful among airlines, combining good capacity for international routes with the reach of making direct connections.
