Spirit AeroSystems announced the inauguration of its newest plant for the manufacture of Airbus fuselage sections A220 in Casablanca, Morocco.
With this, Airbus will have one more strategic plant to expand the production of the jet that directly competes with the Embraer E2, especially at a time when regional aviation will demand new aircraft for the post-pandemic.
With the new facility, those produced in Morocco will be sent for assembly at Spirit's facilities in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Both assembly lines were acquired by Spirit in 2020 as part of a diversification strategy, adding significant Airbus content and further developing Spirit's global footprint, as well as growing its aftermarket business.
Airbus' newest 250.000 square meter collaborative factory at Midparc, Casablanca's aerospace industrial park and more than 300 employees are ing Spirit programs as the plant continues to expand its manufacturing portfolio.
