In order to improve operational safety, Malaysia Airlines announced a ban on meals with self-heating on all your flights immediately. Packages without self-heating are not affected by the decision.
As reported by Simple flying, the use of these utensils that allow cooking without an external heat source can compromise operational safety due to the use of chemical products that activate heat in with water.
To justify the decision, the company stated that the transport of chemicals such as magnesium and calcium oxide can reach extremely high temperatures when activated.
In addition, a report in 2006 by the Federal Aviation istration (FAA) warned about the risks of transporting self-heating chemicals, drawing attention to the fact that Malaysia Airlines only banned it in 2022.
“Effective immediately, any form of self-heating food is prohibited on all Malaysia Airlines flights and is not permitted in checked or cabin baggage by engers or crew due to safety concerns. Self-Heating Meals or Ready-to-Eat Meals include heat packs or self-heating packs such as quick and easy hot pot, rice and drinks”, reported Malaysia Airlines.
