Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has launched a tender for the sale of six Airbus A380 aircraft or their components, the company said in a post on LinkedIn this past Thursday (15/07).
MAG, which is the parent company of Malaysia Airlines and underwent a restructuring earlier this year, invited interested buyers to submit bids by 12 August.
The group's CEO, Captain Izham Ismail, said in May that MAG was looking to dispose of its fleet of A380s following the completion of its debt restructuring.
He said at the time that the group was convinced the fleet did not fit into its future plans as it "restructured itself to position its business as a global travel group".
Even before that, the company was already giving indications about the retirement of the aircraft. Malaysia Airlines pulled out of an interior upgrade in 2018 as it sought interest in operating its A380s.
