Maringá Airport reopens with the largest runway in Paraná

The Azul plane landed this Wednesday, the 16th, at 10 am, and marked the reopening of Maringá airport, after 15 days closed to complete the renovation and expansion of the landing and takeoff runway by 280 meters, making it the longest runway in the world. Paraná (expansion from 2100 to 2380 meters).

The investment of R$ 81,5 million will enable international cargo transport, guarantee more comfort to engers, speed up aircraft maneuvers and modernize the structure.

“This is the main work being carried out and the biggest investment made at the airport”, says Mayor Ulisses Maia.

Initiated in November last year and more than 60% completed, the work includes the reconstruction of aircraft patio 1 and expansion of patio 2 and the Fire Fighting Section (SCI) of the Fire Department, from 150 m² to 300 m².

Interventions also include painting the horizontal signage, installation of vertical signage, installation of light beaconing and implementation of the drainage network.

The Secretary of Public Works (Semop), Albari de Medeiros, explains that the improvements also include the implementation of aids for air navigation and the installation of a new meteorological station.

The airport superintendent, Fernando Rezende, says that the new airport will contribute to the creation of jobs. All planning actions for the work and the safety of engers and employees were aligned with the airlines, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), the Airspace Aircraft Control Department (Decea) and other stakeholders.

“We should complete the works in February or March 2021. Soon after we will ask for authorization to receive intercontinental flights, those planes that carry 300 engers, and also certification to be the airport for the transport of international cargo”, said Fernando Rezende, superintendent of the terminal.
