MCTI and Finep sign agreements for the development of new technologies in the aerospace sector

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and Finep announced this Friday (5), in São José dos Campos (SP), R$ 360 million for the development of structuring projects for the aeronautics and space industry in Brazil.

The funds are an economic subsidy for innovation from the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT) and, therefore, are non-refundable. One of the contracts, signed with Visiona Tecnologia Espacial SA in the amount of R$ 219 million, represents the highest amount in economic subsidy granted by Finep in its entire history. The second largest, for R$ 120 million, was signed with the company Embraer.

The contracts were signed by Minister Luciana Santos during an event celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Association of Aerospace Industries of Brazil (AIAB).

“The resources we announce are destined to the development of structuring and strategic projects, which will lead to the conquest of technological autonomy in Brazil in sectors that operate at the tip of the pyramid of added value”, said the minister.

According to her, the projects will develop technologies for future aviation, involving topics such as electrification and automation, and a high-definition optical satellite, which may be used for monitoring and surveillance of forests, rivers and seas, protection of indigenous lands, defense and public safety.

“It is like this, investing in technology and innovation and believing in Brazilian industry that we will find solutions to our problems and increase the competitiveness of our economy”, added the minister.

She also explained that investments in the aerospace industry have repercussions beyond the sector, such as education and training of specialized labor.

“By creating demand for specialized professionals, incentives for the aerospace industry encourage universities and research centers to produce knowledge. In addition, they create opportunities for new startups and small and medium-sized technology companies, generating high-quality employment and reducing brain drain.”, stressed.

According to Finep's Director of Innovation, Elias Ramos de Souza, for structuring projects in the Brazilian aerospace sector demonstrates Finep's commitment to the country's reindustrialization, based on innovation.

“In this way, it is possible to increase the global competitiveness of our aeronautics industry and guarantee national sovereignty in strategic space technologies”, said.
