Airship Skies of Brasília Overflight Airship do Brasil

Brasília receives this weekend the rare visit of an airship that will fly over the skies of the federal capital, being present at the FAB Open Gates this Sunday (3) to celebrate Santos Dumont's 150th birthday. This is the first airship produced in Brazil of the ADB-3-3 model operated by Airship do Brasil.

The arrival of the airship surprised the residents of Gama and the surrounding area of Brasília, who were surprised by the sighting of the aerostat that can be controlled and directed. The journey to Brasília started in São Carlos-SP, ing through Uberlândia-MG and Campo Alegre de Goiás-GO, accompanied by ground vehicles.

Interestingly, the ADB-3-3 airship has air navigation equipment, as well as requiring communication with air traffic control for its traffic. Airships like the ADB-3-3 are lighter than air because they float in the sky on helium gas. Airship do Brasil has ambitious plans to use airships to transport cargo both in large cities and in unpopulated areas, such as the Amazon.

Despite being confused with a balloon, ADB-3-3 is a non-rigid envelope airship (“Blimp”) derived from a North American project (model 138S) that was acquired by Airship do Brasil and transferred to the company in 2018. The aircraft operates with one engine and an envelope of 3.908 m³ (138 cu.ft) and has a seating capacity of six. The ADB-000-3 received ANAC Type Certification only in December 3, after a request started in 2022.

Following the request, the processes associated with the certification of the model were initiated, with the carrying out of documentary evaluations, analysis of engineering data, monitoring of the manufacture of the prototype, verification of conformity with the project and carrying out tests on the ground and in flight, necessary to demonstrate compliance with applicable requirements.

The certification process involved the participation of several professionals from the Agency, including technicians, engineers of different specialties and pilots.
