In the last week, the Museu Histórico Nacional has made 271 items from the Panair do Brasil collection available online – the first on a company incorporated into the museum’s collection.
The result of donations made by former company employees and their families, part of the collection was shown to the public last year at exhibition “On the wings of Panair”, which outlined a historical overview of one of the pioneering commercial aviation companies in Brazil, which operated between 1929 and 1965.
All three-dimensional items now online are with photo and full description: discover the new digital collection.
It is also available in the MHN digital library the exhibition catalog “On the wings of Panair”, which brings together images from the collection, tells part of the story and provides a chronology of the company.
Highlights of the digital collection
In addition to the Panair do Brasil collection, it is accessible online the whole gallery with MHN, with more than 500 items, plus items from the historical archive and library.
The online collection of “carte de visit” is one of the novelties. Cards that reproduce photographic images, popularized from the second half of the XNUMXth century, are available more than 200 of them in our digital library.
Another highlight is a collection with more than 150 editions from “Le moniteur de la mode” – launched in in 1843 as a “journal of high society”. In addition to tips on fashion and customs of the time, the editions bring color engravings made by illustrators such as Jules David and E.Préval.
Italian draughtsman and painter Alfredo Norfini (1867-1944) recorded in watercolors the architectural heritage of the historic cities of Minas Gerais. In the online collection, the designs highlight material culture and colonial architecture, not forgetting Minas Gerais landscapes. His works would have influenced São Paulo architects in the application of the baroque to the neocolonial architectural style.
